New Delhi. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has continued his indefinite hunger strike from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after being forcibly shifted there by police on the 20th day of his fast due to his worsening health. Wangchuk intensified his protest after a police crackdown on young people demonstrating over accountability for the NEET exam leak. In a handwritten note, he said he would continue his hunger strike until youth leaders are allowed to meet Members of Parliament or are given direct access to him.

In his absence, his wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, who is the co-founder and Dean of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), has become the main spokesperson and representative of the movement. Speaking at public rallies, Angmo is raising the movement’s demands for education reform, institutional transparency, and legal accountability while also challenging her husband’s forced hospitalization.
