BRBCL’s Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Station to Undergo Expansion: Deepak Ranjan Dehuri

Aurangabad. The Super Thermal Power Project established in Nabinagar, Aurangabad district a joint venture between NTPC Limited and Indian Railways known as Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited (BRBCL) is set to undergo expansion. Speaking at a press conference held at the ‘Ananda Auditorium’ within the project premises, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Deepak Ranjan Dehuri, announced that the preliminary report regarding the installation of an additional unit with an 800 MW power generation capacity under the Nabinagar project has yielded positive results.

Once this report is received, the path for the project’s expansion will be paved. Mr. Dehuri clarified that land acquisition will not be required for the expansion, as sufficient land is already available for the purpose. He noted that with this expansion, the current power generation capacity of the project will increase from 1000 MW to 1800 MW.

The Chief Executive Officer revealed that during the last financial year, BRBCL earned a profit exceeding ₹400 crore and an interim dividend of ₹250 crore has already been distributed to NTPC and Indian Railways. He highlighted that BRBCL is actively contributing to the development of Bihar; currently, the project supplies 100 MW of electricity to the state, while 900 MW is supplied to the Railways.

The Chief Executive Officer also mentioned that under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, various development works have been undertaken in the villages affected by the project to provide basic amenities such as roads, electricity, education, healthcare and girls’ empowerment. These efforts have created a new landscape of development within the region.

During the press conference, the Chief Executive Officer shed light on the establishment of BRBCL, its operational framework and the pivotal role it plays in meeting the nation’s energy requirements. He stated that BRBCEL, established as a joint venture between NTPC Limited and Indian Railways, currently operates as a key entity in the energy sector, with all four of its 250 MW capacity units functioning successfully.

Sharing the achievements of the financial year 2025-26, Mr. Dehuri noted that BRBCEL generated a total of 6,089.99 million units of electricity. During this period, the Station Declared Capacity (DC) stood at 87.95 percent, and the Plant Load Factor (PLF) was 69.52 percent. Furthermore, a total ash utilization rate of 132.38 percent was recorded, underscoring the company’s commitment to its environmental obligations.

 

Mr. Dehuri also informed that BRBCEL has been honored with various national-level awards, including the Champions Trophy in the Sub-critical category, the Water Management Award at the Power Gen Meet Awards, and the Corporate Leadership Award presented by the Greentech Foundation. Additionally, in the fields of Public Relations and Corporate Responsibility, the company received four accolades at the PRCI Excellence Awards.

Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by BRBCEL under its social responsibility mandate, Mr. Dehuri outlined significant projects currently underway in project-affected villages such as road construction, the installation of solar high-mast lights, the establishment of five diagnostic centers, and the setting up of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI). Concurrently, programs such as the distribution of nutrition kits for TB patients and the ‘Balika Sashaktikaran Abhiyan’ (Girl Child Empowerment Campaign) are also being implemented. Furthermore, electricity supply powered by solar energy has been ensured for 51 families belonging to the tribal community. Notably, these families had previously been deprived of access to electricity.

General Manager (O&M) S.K. Sudhakar and Additional General Manager (Human Resources) Santosh Upadhyay were also present at the press conference.
