Gayaji. Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar conducted a detailed inspection of the Gaya Museum on Wednesday and issued several important directives regarding the museum’s preservation, modernization and the expansion of cultural activities. During the inspection, the newly appointed Assistant Curator, Dr. Amit Ranjan, briefed the Speaker on the museum’s current status, achievements and future plans and presented the Telhara excavation report to him.
During the inspection, Dr. Prem Kumar remarked that the Gaya Museum is a vital hub for the historical, cultural and archaeological heritage of Bihar and specifically the Magadh region. He directed that all the museum’s galleries be renovated and reorganized into a modern, attractive format so that tourists, researchers and students from across the country and abroad can gain a better understanding of Magadh’s rich heritage.
He instructed that key galleries—such as the Samskar (Traditions/Rites) Gallery and the Astra-Shastra (Arms and Weaponry) Gallery—be re-established and that the museum premises undergo repairs and beautification. He also ordered that exhibits be made more impactful through the use of modern technology. Furthermore, he directed the concerned officials to take necessary action to remove encroachments from outside the museum premises and ensure the proper disposal of surrounding garbage and waste.
Dr. Prem Kumar stated that the museum should not merely be a venue for displaying ancient artifacts but a vibrant cultural centre. He emphasized the need for regular cultural events—such as theatre, folk dance, dance-dramas, vocal and instrumental music performances and Kilkari programs.
Directing officials to convene a meeting in the near future to discuss a detailed action plan and suggestions, he urged that all necessary steps be taken to transform the Gaya Museum into a modern, public-oriented cultural institution of national stature. Museum officials, along with Prem Sagar, Rajnandan Gandhi, Suraj Rana, Bunty Verma and Rajkumar were present on the occasion.
