New Delhi. Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has refused to end his indefinite hunger strike despite deteriorating health, saying he remains committed to his demand for accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET paper leak.
Now in the 19th day of his fast, Wangchuk has reportedly lost more than 9 kg, prompting doctors monitoring his condition to warn that he could soon enter a critical stage, with an increased risk of organ damage if the hunger strike continues. His latest health bulletin stated that his vital signs are being closely monitored.
In a video message, Wangchuk acknowledged growing public concern over his health but appealed to supporters to join a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20, instead of urging him to end the fast. He has maintained that his protest seeks systemic reforms and greater transparency in the examination process.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has agreed to urgently hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking medical intervention and appropriate measures in view of Wangchuk’s worsening health.
