Kolkata. A powerful explosion ripped through a rented room in South Narayanpur under Rajarhat in North 24 Parganas on Friday night, damaging parts of a residential building and injuring one person. Preliminary investigations indicate the blast was caused by explosives believed to be used in the manufacture of crude bombs, prompting a major police investigation.
According to police, two men had rented the room only a few days earlier, claiming they would stay there at night. CCTV footage reportedly shows one of the tenants entering the room with a white bag shortly before the explosion. Minutes after he left the room, a loud blast occurred, severely damaging two rooms of the house. A man in an adjacent room sustained injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital.
Following the incident, Kolkata Police detained one person for questioning and recovered materials suspected to be linked to crude bomb manufacturing from the site. Bomb disposal and forensic teams inspected the premises, while investigators are trying to determine whether the house was being used to store or assemble explosives. No fatalities have been reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
