Patna. Tension prevailed in the Bihar capital on Tuesday after students protesting against alleged examination paper leaks and irregularities in the education system were stopped by police while marching towards the Bihar Assembly.
The protest, organised by student groups, was part of a nationwide movement demanding greater transparency in competitive examinations, strict action against those involved in paper leak cases, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the handling of recent examination controversies.
As the demonstrators attempted to breach police barricades and proceed towards restricted areas, security personnel used water cannons and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Some protesters also alleged that police resorted to a mild lathi-charge, though officials maintained that force was used only after students ignored repeated warnings to disperse.
