Patna. TRAI (Regional Office- Kolkata) organised a COP at Samastipur to apprise the public about various initiatives taken by TRAI to safeguard consumer interests earlier today.
During the event Ashim Dutta, Advisor, TRAI RO Kolkata highlighted the legislative framework under which telecom service is provided in India, the roles and responsibilities of TRAI and the very purpose of this program. The theme of the program, namely, Consumer Protection & Choice in Telecom and Broadcasting was briefly explained.
Rinki Kumari, NSS Program Officer, Women’s College, Samastipur in her address appreciated the arrangement of this kind awareness program which is very relevant in today’s perspective. She also highlighted about other government initiatives in the form of Sanchar Saathi portal etc.
Shalini Kumari, NSS Program Officer, Samastipur College while addressing the session highlighted the role of TRAI as sector regulator of telecom and broadcasting sectors and briefed about various initiatives taken by TRAI for the benefit of the consumers. She urged the participants to take full benefit of such program to enhance their knowledge and technical know-how. She emphasized the importance of application of knowledge for the empowerment of citizens.
During the programme through a detailed presentation by Ashim Dutta, Joint Advisor, TRAI and Saswata Dasgupta, Consultant, TRAI participants were educated about the provisions of different consumer centric regulations, directions and orders relating to Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) Complaint Redressal Mechanism, Quality of Service etc. Participants were also informed about the benefits of various Mobile apps (TRAI MySpeed app, TRAI DND 3.0 app etc). Participants were also briefed on various recommendations made by TRAI to facilitate growth of telecommunication and about TRAI’s new regulations/ Directions on UCC and how they should be extra careful about different telecom fraud like tower fraud, fraudulent message/ calls etc. Other initiatives of TRAI in respect of broadcasting sector were also apprised.
A presentation on financial cyber frauds and preventive measures was given by Amit Kumar, AGM, RBI, Patna, presentation on Sanchar Saathi portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in)a citizen centric portal of the Department of Telecom was presented by A. Haque, ADG, DoT, Bihar. The presentations were followed by a lively interactive session wherein participants queries related to various aspects of telecom services were responded by TRAI team/ TSPs.
