Patna. The Bihar government’s ambitious plan to commence classes in 211 newly established degree colleges from July 1 has been postponed due to incomplete infrastructure and administrative preparations. The delay comes despite earlier announcements that the colleges would begin functioning with the start of the 2026–27 academic session.
According to officials, several colleges are yet to be equipped with basic infrastructure, while the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff remains incomplete. The proposed deployment of faculty has also faced administrative hurdles, prompting the state to defer the launch until preparations are finalized.
The 211 colleges are being established under the state’s Saat Nischay-3 programme to ensure that every block in Bihar has access to a degree college. The project is expected to significantly improve access to higher education, particularly for students in rural and underserved areas. A revised date for the commencement of classes will be announced after the remaining work is completed and receives government approval.
