Patna. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the by-election to the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Bihar. Polling will be held on July 30, while the counting of votes will take place on August 3. The bypoll is expected to be closely watched as it will serve as an important political contest ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Bankipur seat fell vacant after BJP state president Nitin Nabin resigned from the Bihar Legislative Assembly following his election to the Rajya Sabha. According to the Election Commission’s notification, the election process will begin on July 6 with the issuance of the official notification and the commencement of nominations. The last date for filing nominations is July 13, scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on July 14, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until July 16.
Political parties are expected to intensify their campaign in the coming weeks, although the BJP, RJD, and other major parties are yet to announce their candidates. The outcome of the Bankipur by-election is likely to be viewed as an indicator of the political mood in Bihar ahead of the state Assembly polls later this year.
