Renowned educationist, social worker and litterateur Dr. Anand Ranjan Jha has drawn widespread attention through his latest poem, “In the City of Cleverness”, which has been gaining significant appreciation across social media and literary circles. The poem delivers a powerful message against the growing culture of selfishness, deceit, opportunism and hypocrisy in contemporary society, while encouraging readers to reflect on their own values.
Dr. Jha stated that trust and genuine relationships are gradually weakening in today’s world. People often display affection and kindness in public, yet fail to uphold those values when circumstances demand sincerity and loyalty. He emphasized that literature is not merely a medium of emotional expression but also a mirror of society that inspires people to confront reality and engage in self-reflection.
Clarifying the essence of the poem, Dr. Anand Ranjan Jha said that it is not directed against any individual, organization, or community. Rather, it questions the growing social tendency where selfish interests have replaced genuine relationships, and opportunism has overshadowed honesty and integrity.
He appealed especially to the youth to make truth, trust, compassion, and human values the foundation of their lives. According to him, if individuals embrace honesty and humanity in their conduct, society can once again be built on mutual trust, respect and harmony.
