New Delhi. The Uttarakhand government has officially dissolved its state Madrasa Board, replacing it with the Uttarakhand State Authority for Minority Education (USAME). This landmark shift brings all registered minority institutions including Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, and Parsi schools under a single, unified regulatory body.
To mainstream students into modern professional paths, the new framework mandates the standard state board curriculum, introducing core subjects like Mathematics, Science, and English. To balance modern schooling with cultural traditions, the state has established a dual-shift system. The morning shift focuses entirely on standard academic subjects, while the evening shift is reserved for traditional religious education alongside lessons on the Constitution and human rights.
Under the new rules, institutions face strict two-stage compliance, requiring both academic affiliation and USAME recognition. Approvals hinge on rigorous infrastructure standards, verified staff qualifications, and legal land ownership. While critics voice concerns over the administrative dismantling of community-led bodies, officials maintain the reform aligns with national legal precedents to provide equitable career opportunities for minority youth.
