Kolkata. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several districts of South Bengal as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal continues to intensify, strengthening monsoon activity in the region.
According to the IMD, districts including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur and adjoining areas are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next few days. The weather system is expected to remain active, leading to widespread showers across southern parts of the state.
The state administration has advised residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, as heavy rain may lead to waterlogging, disruption of road traffic and localized flooding. Fishermen have also been cautioned against venturing into the sea due to rough weather conditions.
While the rainfall is expected to provide relief from the prevailing heat and humid conditions, disaster management authorities have directed district administrations to stay prepared for any weather-related emergencies and urged people to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
