New Delhi. In a major step to improve operational safety and reduce the workload on railway staff, the Railway Ministry on July 7, 2026, approved the recruitment of 4,098 technical personnel across various railway zones. The Railway Recruitment Boards will release the Centralised Employment Notification on July 21, 2026, officially starting the application process.
The recruitment covers 35 technical categories, mainly including Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendents, and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistants. Safety-related departments will receive the highest number of recruits, with 845 posts for Permanent Way track maintenance, 470 posts for structural Works maintenance, 450 posts for Carriage & Wagon coach inspection, and 276 posts for Signal & Telecom interlocking systems.
Before the July 21 notification, zonal railways are carrying out internal verification to ensure proper implementation of SC, ST, OBC, and EWS reservation quotas. The move has been welcomed by staff federations like the AIRF and comes after a separate notification for 6,565 technician vacancies issued earlier this year.
