New Delhi. India head coach Gautam Gambhir defended the decision to leave Sanju Samson out of the playing XI after India’s heavy defeat to England in the third T20I, saying the wicketkeeper-batter has already been informed about the reasons behind the move.
Gambhir Explains the Decision:
Speaking after the match, Gambhir said the discussion with Samson was private.“Sanju has received all the clarity he needed. He has done a fantastic job for India, but team selection also depends on current form. He can still return later in the series.”
Team Chose Form Over Reputation:
Samson was dropped after a poor run with the bat against Ireland and England, with 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi replacing him. Gambhir said the management selected the combination they believed gave India the best chance of winning.
India Look to Bounce Back:
India were bowled out for just 76 while chasing 202 in the third T20I. Gambhir admitted the team has struggled to adapt to conditions and stressed that every player must earn their place through performance as India aim to recover in the remaining matches.
