New Delhi. Prime Minister Modi’s landmark visit to Indonesia resulted in major strategic agreements in defense, maritime security, and governance technology.
In a major defense development, Indonesia will import India’s indigenous Astra air-to-air missiles for its Su-30 fighter jets after their success in Operation Sindoor. Jakarta is also strengthening its coastal defenses by purchasing additional BrahMos supersonic cruise missile batteries.
On the geopolitical front, both countries will jointly develop Sabang Port near the strategically important Strait of Malacca, a global trade route that handles 22% of the world’s trade. Located just 100 miles from Great Nicobar, the port will support an important maritime security and surveillance network.
India will also invest in Indonesian processing of nickel, steel, and rare-earth magnets, while helping Jakarta build custom Electronic Voting Machines for its elections across the island nation.
