Uttrakhand. Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread disruption across Uttarakhand, with more than 100 major roads blocked due to landslides and falling debris. Continuous heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has badly affected transport across the region, especially the Char Dham pilgrimage routes.
Important stretches of the Yamunotri National Highway near Syanachatti and the Gangotri National Highway near Nalu Pani remain completely closed because of falling boulders and collapsing hillsides. Major rivers, including the Alaknanda and Mandakini, have risen close to danger levels, leading emergency teams to monitor the situation round the clock. The State Disaster Management Authority and local police have issued urgent travel advisories, asking residents and tourists to avoid mountain roads and riverbanks. With the India Meteorological Department forecasting continued heavy rainfall, emergency teams remain on high alert as work continues to clear the blocked highways.
