Mumbai. An 11-year-old student lost his life and four others were injured after a large tree collapsed onto a school bus in Mumbai’s Chembur area on Tuesday.
The accident occurred on Road No. 11 when a tree suddenly fell on a bus belonging to Universal School, carrying 13 students.
The bus conductor and local residents acted swiftly, rescuing the children before the Mumbai Fire Brigade reached the spot.
Five students, including three boys and two girls, were rushed to Zen Multispeciality Hospital. One of them, 11-year-old Vihan Shrivastav, suffered critical injuries and was declared dead. Hospital authorities confirmed that the remaining four children sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the tree’s collapse. The tragedy has raised fresh concerns over the safety and maintenance of ageing trees during the monsoon season in Mumbai.
