Muzaffarpur. A young woman allegedly died by suicide after reportedly facing repeated rejection in arranged marriage proposals due to her dark complexion. According to her family, her marriage proposal had been turned down ten times, and she was expected to meet another prospective groom for the eleventh time.
Relatives said the repeated rejections left her emotionally distressed, and she had begun to believe that no one would accept her because of her complexion. Unable to cope with the mounting mental stress, she allegedly took the extreme step.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The incident has once again drawn attention to the issue of colour-based discrimination and the emotional pressure faced by many women in arranged marriages.
