New Delhi. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar has entered its 17th day, raising national concern over his worsening health. Wangchuk joined the protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) after allegations of paper leaks and other failures in competitive exams such as NEET-UG. He is demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
His health has been seriously affected. Wangchuk has lost more than 8.5 kg, and his blood pressure has fallen to 109/70 mm Hg, causing severe physical pain. Despite this, he has refused to end his fast, asking why the government has not responded to repeated calls for dialogue.
A large number of people have come out in support of him. Political leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Akhilesh Yadav, student unions, and cultural figures like Zeenat Aman have backed his demands. At the same time, they have urged Wangchuk to end the hunger strike, saying his life is an invaluable asset to the nation.
