New Delhi. India has launched its official campaign at the UN Headquarters for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028–29 term.
The campaign is centered around the SHANTI vision, which stands for Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust, and Integrity. Through this vision, India presents itself as a stable voice in a divided world. Its campaign focuses on key priorities such as giving a stronger voice to the Global South, building future-ready peacekeeping operations, maintaining zero tolerance for terrorism, promoting responsible AI governance, protecting important maritime routes, and calling for long-pending reforms of the UN Security Council.
India will compete with Tajikistan for the single rotating Asia-Pacific Group seat in the UN General Assembly elections scheduled for June 2027. If elected, this will be India’s ninth term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, further strengthening its role in global governance.
