Patna. In a major milestone for water resource management, Bihar’s first river-link project has become operational with Bagmati River water successfully reaching the Burhi Gandak through the Belwa channel. Developed at a cost of approximately ₹130.88 crore, the project is aimed at improving irrigation, enhancing water conservation, and reducing the impact of floods and droughts in the region.
The river-link initiative is expected to benefit nearly 50 lakh farmers by ensuring a more reliable water supply for agriculture across several districts. Officials said the project will strengthen irrigation infrastructure, improve groundwater recharge, and support sustainable farming while boosting overall water management in the state.
